April has begun, spring has sprung (okay… maybe not so much, Reykjavík is covered in snow) and the day of fools is upon us! The first week of April is shaping up to be a fun one. We’ve compiled a list of events in Reykjavík this week for your consideration.

Monday April 1st
Monday Jazz, Húrra, Tryggvagata 22. 21:00. FREE
We cannot guarantee that this event is not an April Fool’s Day prank. Although, a fake Monday night jazz concert seems like an unlikely prank. Which might be the brilliance of it.
There is Happy Hour at the bar until nine o’clock. The house band will start by playing a set and then anyone who so desires is invited to get up and play with the band.
Tuesday April 2nd
Funniest Four, The Secret Cellar, Lækjargata 6a. 21:00. FREE
Iceland’s only dedicated comedy venue has free events in English every night of the week. Their Tuesday night shows bring together some of the city’s best English speaking comedians. A night of laughs at the not so secret Secret Cellar in Lækjargata.
Wednesday April 3rd
Grúska Babúska and MIMRA Concert, Gaukurinn, Tryggvagata 22. 21:00. 1000 ISK
One of Reykjavík’s most versatile venues, Gaukurinn, is hosting a not-to-be-missed concert this Wednesday. Grúska Babúska and MIMRA, a double bill of wonderful women playing beautiful music.
Grúska Babúska is a four piece band whose sound can be described as quirkily ethereal. MIMRA is a singer and composer who plays electro-acoustic folky pop. Two exciting acts in one night.

Thursday April 4th
Game of Thrones Quiz, Lebowski Bar, Laugavegur 20A. 21:00. FREE
Winter. Is. Coming. If you look out the window in Iceland, it would seem that winter is already here. Another thing which is almost here is the final season of HBO’s Game of Thrones. In honour of that Lebowski Bar’s pub quiz of the week is dedicated to the fantasy television show.
Revise before the quiz: Game of Thrones filming locations in Iceland
Happy Hour is from four to seven and the kitchen is open until 10pm. Grab a few friends, have a couple of beers and a burger and test out your knowledge of Westeros. There’s prizes for the winning team and the best team name. You might find out that like Jon Snow, you know nothing. Booking a table is strongly advised because popular quizzes like this one leave almost no standing room.
Friday April 5th
Son of the Day, Kex Hostel, Skúlagata 28. 20:00. 2.000 ISK
Hugleikur Dagsson kicks off his Son of the Day tour at Kex Hostel this Friday. Hugleikur is perhaps best known for his work as a cartoonist, his drawings are simple, borderline offensive and utterly hilarious. The style of his stick-figure cartoons translates perfectly into his stand-up, if you like your humour dark, this is the show for you.
Opening for Dagsson is his Icetralia podcast co-host, Jonathan Duffy, Iceland’s only openly Australian comedian. The house opens at 8pm, show starts at 9pm. Kex Hostel is the best place to be if you want to laugh this Friday.
Saturday April 6th
Skálmöld Concert, Hard Rock Cafe, Lækjargata 2A. 21:00. 3.000 ISK
Hard Rock Cafe will be rightly named this Saturday as Iceland’s favourite folk metal band plays in Hard Rock’s basement venue. Skálmöld has been touring relentlessly abroad but now they’ll finally grace Iceland with their music again.
This is the band’s last planned concert in Iceland this year, so fans of metal should rush to buy tickets now. If you’re a metalhead, you don’t want to miss Skálmöld playing in their natural habitat, a dark basement in Reykjavík.
