Detox is the alter ego of Matthew Sanderson who’s drag persona took the world by storm after a stint on the reality show RuPaul’s Drag Race. Detox was a contestant on the fifth season of Drag Race, finishing in 4th place. She was also the runner up of season two of RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars.

This isn’t the first time Detox has performed in Iceland. She headlined last year’s Reykjavík Pride Festival to a sell-out crowd. According to Pink Iceland Co-Founder Hannes Páll Pálsson, the drag queen has fallen in love with Iceland.

Hannes told GayIceland that his company reached out to Detox after she had announced she was going to be visiting Iceland as a tourist via social media over a year ago. Pink Iceland offered to show the drag superstar a good time in Iceland, and she accepted the offer.

This, in turn, lead to Pink Iceland asking Detox if she would be interested in performing here, and the rest is drag herstory.

Rainbow Reykjavík began as a way to have an LGBT+ event in Iceland during the winter to boost tourism, which is usually slower at this time. Rainbow Reykjavík was the first event Pink Iceland produced in 2011 and has been a success ever since.

The Pink Party’s doors will open at Iðnó (Vonarstræti 3) at 10.30pm on Saturday 9th March. The show is set to kick off at 11.30pm and features a massive array of drag and variety, and of course, the whole thing is hosted by Detox.

Hannes told Guide to Iceland Now that it is likely they will stop selling online tickets long before the show starts, but they will keep some to set aside for door sales. If you have missed out getting your ticket online, head down to Iðnó early to snatch one because if you miss out, the only other thing that will be snatched is your wig girl!
